Me on FJ

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Volkhart Baumgärtner
Title: Me on FJ
Gear used: OM-4 + 50/1.8
Diaphragm: F5.6
Shutter speed: Auto, approx. 1/125
Film used: AGFA CT precisa 100
Technical information: This was on an overcast day.
I misused my camera bag on a picknick table as a makeshift tripod, simply putting the camera on top of it and shifting some lens caps around underneath it until the lens pointed in the right direction (as you often don't have enough space on a bike to carry a tripod, you learn to improvise). Barely made it onto the bike around the wooden benches installed next to the table, and over some roots, after releasing on self-timer. As I only do portraits (let alone self-portraits) on a very occasional basis I decided to send in this picture, which is part of a test roll I shot after getting my OM-4 back from John - do I need to mention that the camera proved to be in perfect technical condition?
Subject information: Me on my favorite vehicle. I ride at least ten to twelve thousand km per year, and it has faithfully carried me through large parts of Germany, Austria, Italy, and around Scotland. However, it's more than a hobby for me - I use it for business travel whenever it's possible, and in congested German traffic the bike often proves to have a large advantage over the tin cans (those things in which you have lots of sheet metal around you, and at least two wheels too much ;-) ).

The picture clearly shows "a man and his hobby"...
