The geek's sanctum

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Jay Maynard
Title: The geek's sanctum
Gear used: OM-2, 21/3.5 Zuiko, cheap Slik tripod
Diaphragm: f/3.5
Shutter speed: 1/15
Film used: Konica VX 400
Technical information: I shot this at night, using only the light from the overhead fixture. The slow shutter speed ensured getting the images on the computer screens, which I particularly wanted. The 21mm lens got the entire room from one corner of the doorway. Contrast and color balance were adjusted in Photoshop after scanning.
Subject information: Me, in the room I spend the majority of my waking hours in at home. There are 9 computers in the picture, as well as a couple of production cels from the Animaniacs cartoon series, a 5-foot-tall Dot Warner plushie, and one computer geek. The T-shirt says "If we promise to miss you, will you go away?"...one of my favorites.

Indeed, I'm amazed by the amount of hardware you have over there!

Comment left by: Hans van Veluwen (hcvanveluwen@chello.nl) This almosts looks like Tom Scales' cabinet, only you seem to be collecting computers ;)

Comment left by: siddiq (no e-mail specified) must get hot in there w/ all those PCs...

Comment left by: Jay Maynard (jmaynard@conmicro.cx) There are 5 Intel PCs, an Alpha, an SGI Indigo 2, a DECstation, and an AS/400 in there...and, most of the time, all but one PC and the AS/400 are running. Yes, there's a noticeable temperature gradient across the doorway, but the ceiling fan makes it pretty comfortable.

Comment left by: siddiq (no e-mail specified) ah. one more question: that looks like carpet...how can you caster on the chair on carpet w/o that plastic thingy?

Comment left by: Jay Maynard (jmaynard@conmicro.cx) Carpet casters.
I've included a key to the computers at my picture page.

Comment left by: Refurbished computers (noregem@gmail.com) cheap computers are really refurbished computers and a real saver of our finances.
