Comment left by: Olaf Greve (no e-mail specified) Now this is an action shot if you've ever seen one!
I know you already told me you cannot do it, but I would still *LOVE* to be taken along for a ride in one of these planes (hint, hint)...;)
Seriously: a very clever shot. How did you do it exactly?

Comment left by: siddiq (siddim01@student.ucr.edu) here's an idea Chris: whoever "donates" a coveted piece of Oly/Zuik gear gets a free ride (limit one per person....)

Comment left by: george (george@whitneygallery.com) Awesome.

Comment left by: Mike Butler (abutler@flash.net) This portrait draws me in, first there is the initial envy, but then the photo shows more of what was involved. The reflection of the cockpit and the clouds below in the visor, the gloved hand triggering the shutter, all while flying a front line fighter/bomber for the RAF. In my circle of racing buddies this is what we call "Getting Style Points". Your just doing what everybody expects you to do but your on film because of the way you do it. Well done.

Comment left by: Gary Edwards (garyetx@home.com) Chris, I notice in the reflection that the skid ball is about a half a ball out, to the left - PAY ATTENTION!
(pilot inside joke)

In a previous discusion of this image you mentioned some disappointment in the amount of flare - I disagree. It is a spectacular image and the ghost aperture images only add to the sense of place - "High in the sunlit silence."

Comment left by: Stephen Scharf (scharfsj@ix.netcom.com) That is a great self-portrait, Chris, just awesome!

Comment left by: Carlos Santisteban (cjss@supercable.es) Taking a self-portrail while flying a plane seems to be very difficult... However, the result is superb!

I think the flare gives 'character' to this photo.

Comment left by: Chris Barker (ftog@threeshoes.co.uk) The camera was in my left hand, resting on the left hand coaming; you can just see the white glove reflected in the dark visor (we have 2 visors, a clear and a dark. You use the clear visor for all low level flying to protect your face in case of a birdstrike. I had time to take the photo because I was not having to fly in formation, and the aircraft is on automatic pilot, flying straight and level. I look at this photo now with some wistfulness and nostalgia ....
