Zuikoholism - The Progression of the Disease!

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Chris O'Neill
Title: Zuikoholism - The Progression of the Disease!
Gear used: OM-2 + 50/1.4 + tripod
Diaphragm: f/2.8 or f4 (it was really cold and dreary that day)
Shutter speed: I don't know. The camera was set to Auto Mode.
Film used: Kirkland (Agfa) ASA 200 (It's cheap... we get it at Costco!)
Technical information: Not much to say, here. The camera was triggered with the self-timer. My role was to set it up, aim and focus, get the timer going, and then run like heck to get into the picture in time! (Grin!)
Subject information: This photo was inspired by John Lind's TOPE 1 submission "Last Hand, Winner Takes All". My TOPE 1 entry was originally going to be another "picture of me looking in a mirror" shot, but then I saw John's entry (great photo, John!) and I decided to try for something a little more unusual.

That's when I got to thinking about how we always joke in the Olympus Mailing List about being "Zuikoholics." I began to think of what would make a good shot of Zuikoholism at its worst. Voila! Here's me begging for OM cameras or Zuiko lenses in front of a camera store!

Further Information: After I took this photo, I got to thinking of other possibilities. Eventually, I shot a complete photographic story about Zuikoholism. Finally, that led to the creation of the Zuikoholics Anonymous Home Page. Check it out!

Hmmm, now if I could only figure out which street corner you reside on, I might drop by with my 35-80/2.8...;)

Comment left by: Hans van Veluwen (hcvanveluwen@chello.nl) LOL!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! The Zuikoholics Anonymous Home Page is too much! P.S. ever tried using OM-mounted M*randa lenses as substitutes to fight the urge? ;)))

Comment left by: Chris O'Neill (coneill@nucleus.com) Thanks for the comments, Olaf and Hans. Olaf, the photo was taken in from of McBain's Photo (10159 - 101 Stree, Edmonton). I'm there daily, after work. Bring the 350/2.8 and the 16/3.5 lenses... they'll come-in *very* handy! Hans, if M*randa lenses quench your thirst for Zuiko urges for even a few seconds, you have it VERY bad!

Comment left by: Alasdair Mackintosh (Alasdair.Mackintosh@eu.citrix.com) Another very witty picture. I don't suppose any passers-by gave you any change?

Comment left by: Thomas ((Well, you know)) Chris, I always knew you were nuts - this just confirms it. You are the good kind of nuts, however ;) Great photo.

I love the humerous tone in this photo - I just wish that it had been a little more visible that it was a camera store (a polarizing filter might have helped?). It would have emphasized the humor even more.

Your picture brought back fond memories from going to San Francisco with some friends from grad-school. There was this homeless guy with a hat and a sign "Why lie? - it's for beer", begging for change.

What can I say? I am amused ;)

Comment left by: Carlos Santisteban (cjss@supercable.es) Ha, ha, ha, ha! Funny picture... I can see myself in such state ;-)
