At play...

Submitter's name: Eric Pederson
Title: At play...
Date: 8/2000
Gear used: Olympus Pen-D2 (half-frame; fixed 32mm lens); no filter; no flash.
Diaphragm: f2.8
Shutter speed: 1/30
Film used: TMY (TMax 400) at EI 400; TMaxDev 1:4, 6min @24.5C. Not a great scan and too much compression, but no real need for resolution here. I find that TMY in half-frame gives what I consider acceptable image quality up to 5x7" (12x18cm) print format (with minimal cropping), so I use this half-frame camera for b/w snapshots.
Technical information: Not technically a self-portrait in that my son Alexandre was responsible for framing and shutter. My son's first handling of a real camera, shortly after his 4th birthday; so I am quite pleased with the shot. Lighting mostly daylight through large glass sliding doors to viewer's left. I learned photography as a young teenager with this specific camera, so it has entered into its third generation of use in my family.
Subject information: That's me fondling my equipment. Much more common than actually using the equipment to take photographs, sigh...

Comment left by: Olaf Greve (no e-mail specified) At first I was considering not accepting this entry as it's not a self-portrait, but then I read that it's actually the very first result of your 4 year old son using Olympus gear (and a Pen at that).

In this case I feel the importance of passing the Oly-bug from generation to generation (to which this camera has attributed nicely, apparently) is more important than the "self-taken" rule. In fact, I think "passing the Oly-bug" is a great moment in every Zuikoholic's life, so you did very well in sending in a submission which captures that moment!
