The Bolts on Vacation

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Adam Bolt
Title: The Bolts on Vacation
Gear used: Olympus OM 10, Zuiko 35-70mm f4 Zoom set at 50mm + tripod, self timer used.
Diaphragm: f8
Shutter speed: 1/125 sec
Film used: Kodakcolour Gold 200 ISO
Technical information: f8 was used so that I could get us in sharp focus and soften the background to get even more feel of depth and open space. I used my wife and daughter to focus on and then set the self timer.
Subject information: I came across this scene when we were holidaying out in and around Stanthorpe (West of the Gold Coast in Queensland Australia). I like the way that this was basically an abandoned railway and the fact the train lines ran in a straight line past the horizon. The original shot was in colour but was scanned using Ulead Photo Express in Grey Scale. The lettering was also done with Ulead. I would like to go back to this spot again one day and take the shot with proper black and white film and just with my daughter carrying a knapsack looking off into the distance.
