Timing is everything

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Dan Mitchell
Title: Timing is everything
Gear used: OM-2S + 50/1.8 + T32 + 3 x Beard convention specials
Diaphragm: f5.6 (I think)
Shutter speed: 1/60
Film used: Generic Fuji 100
Technical information: T32 mounted directly on the camera, for maximum red-eye and weird shadows.
Subject information: I took a roll of shots of me juggling; set the self-timer going, rush back to kit, start juggling, hope something interesting comes out. The main thing I learned from this is that while some of the photos are more photographically interesting, timing is everything when taking this sort of shot.

The ones with more flashes/flash mounted off-camera/wide-angle lenses/shot from below/etc, all could be good -- but the timing wasn't what I wanted, so they look a lot less interesting.

Ironically, the simple test shot I took right at the start to make sure that the flash would be bright enough also happened to be the only one where all the clubs were in the right position..

A suggestion for a slightly different type of shot, would to take a shot that shows the motion of you and of the pegs you're juggling. By using a slower shutter speed and no flash, this might be achievable. Perhaps that would be a fun experiment to perform too (this might also make the timing factor less critical).
