Persona

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Brian Swale
Title: Persona
Gear used: OM4Ti, Zuiko 40mm f/2 on tripod with 20kg weights suspended from tripod head to keep firm, lens-hood, self-timer.
Diaphragm: f/16
Shutter speed: About 1/2 second; on automatic.
Film used: Fujicolor Superia Reala 100 asa.
Technical information: Natural light from bright overcast day through large window. Print 15 x 10 cm produced by an Agfa Digital processor on Prestige Digital photographic paper, and scanned using a KTX AP4800 flatbed scanner at 108 pixels/inch. This gave the exact image width of 640 pixels. Image tweaked using Adobe PhotoDeluxe.
Subject information: Which is me? One image was painted in the 1960's by Australian painter Ainslie Roberts to represent one of many Aboriginal myths collected by anthropologist Charles Mountfort. The title reads "The Thunder Stones". The other impression has been formed over many decades and is being cast into stone, it seems.

Comment left by: Marc (mlawrence@cfp.com.au) Gees, mate! Bloody shockin' head! ( Just takin' the p***)

...but Brian, you've obviously a love for this picture. There is something sad though about your juxtoposition of the thunder man (Mamarragen?) and his wild and literally thunderous laughter, and your, as you say, "stony" face. Purely aesthetically, it's a great placement of subjects. Knowing that the autophotographer is you, however, does not exactly give rise to feelings of joy. :-)

Comment left by: Richard Allen (dickallen@buckeye-express.com) I like it. The problem is ..I don't know which one to look at more, it seems that Brian is telepathing "look at the painting" and the fellow in the painting is trying to terrorize me when I look at him. Great composition. The colors all work together, too.

Comment left by: Carlos Santisteban (cjss@supercable.es) Stunning shot! The composition is great. I agree with Richard Allen that you're telepathing "look at the painting". Very nice lighting, too.

I imagine a funny contrast between the tiny 40mm F2 and the 20kg weights suspended from tripod head! You are really concerned about firmness... ;-)
