Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Carlos Santisteban
Title: Pelanas
Gear used: OM-2n + 135/3.5 + Metz 40MZ-3i flash + Heiwa TH-735 tripod
Exposure: f/11, TTL Auto flash
Film used: Fujicolor Superia 400
Technical information: Flash bounced on a white cardboard. 4x6" print scanned with an Agfa StudioStar.
Subject information: That's me, while setting the camera for a few self-portraits for TOPE 1 in a very awkward position, when I saw my hair falling over my forehead and camera. 'Pelanas' is a rather derogative word in Spanish for 'long-haired man'.

With a 135mm, that mirror you used must have been quite far away, right?

Comment left by: Carlos Santisteban (cjss@supercable.es) Well, the mirror was about 1 metre away from the camera -- don't forget that the apparent image is twice that distance. In the uncropped original picture, the field is about 32x48 cm -- that's 1:13 image scale, or about 1.8 m with a 135mm lens. BTW, the picture was taken vertically, with my head on top of the camera, and intended to be shown that way...

Comment left by: Brian Swale (bj@caverock.net.nz) Hi Carlos,

A very effective portrait. With the camera and flash alongside there's no doubt what your interest is. Good colour on the subject, and you are recognisable.

Insofar as you have made a little joke, perhaps like a self-cartoon, about yourself (which is not always easy for anybody), you have done it very well. And actually a great portrait too.

I like it. Brian

Comment left by: ascanio (ascanio@marca.es) this photograph seems to be in a wrong position. The falling of the hair is a bit strange, as if it should be vertical, am I wrong?
