Self portrait, The Hut, May 2002

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Marc Lawrence
Title: Self portrait, The Hut, May 2002
Gear used: OM1 + 50/1.4 + tripod + self-timer
Diaphragm: f8
Shutter speed: 1/500
Film used: Kodak Black and White +400
Technical information: I took about 4 photos before I could remember how the bloody self-timer worked. Only natural light, on an overcast day. Scanned from a print on a very ordinary HP ScanJet 5100C scanner.
Subject information: Just me, out at the Hut three hours west of Sydney and over the mountains and in the bush. Yes, I'm being a bit ironic here - I'm about as "Mountain Man" as you can be when you live 10 minutes walk from the centre of the city. Still, we can pretend, especially when the place is in the middle of nowhere, has no electricity, it's below freezing, and you have to chop your own firewood. GRUNT GRUNT GRUNT

Sometimes I find it difficult to imagine that any part of Australia could be cold and wet, then when I remember feeling as though I was freezing in winter at Surfers' Paradise, I know that's not true.

With your Drizabone style coat and that hat!

Excellent self-portrait, putting you in a holiday context too.

Now - just what were you thinking ??

Comment left by: Alasdair Mackintosh (Alasdair.Mackintosh@activerf.com) Nice relaxed pose, and a good range of tones. Hats are always good...
