Water as Meditation and Pleasure

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Winsor Crosby
Title: Water as Meditation and Pleasure
Gear used: OM-4Ti + 50/F2
Diaphragm: Unrecorded(That is how I am)
Shutter speed: Unrecorded(What can I say?)
Film used: Fuji Velvia
Technical information: I adjusted the exposure -1 stop to get a lower key image. Image adjusted in PhotoShop 4.
Subject information: Making tea on top of the cabinet I keep the OM stuff in. I tried to think about water before taking an image. I realized the subject encompasses everything and almost becomes meaningless like the echoes in the cave in E.M. Forster's "Passage to India." So I settled for one small aspect.

For me, especially the wild background (and the way the tea pot deforms the pattern) make this picture.

Comment left by: Mickey Trageser (no e-mail specified) Beauty! The strong lines of the shade are bent in the glass which acts as solid water to the light. The reflections in the lid are interesting as well. Since you didn't take notice of the exposure, can you at least tell us what kind of tea you were brewing? ;-)

Comment left by: Photographer (no e-mail specified) Dark, rich Assam. :-)

Comment left by: Dave Dougherty (davdou@san.rr.com) I like simplicity and serenity. This Photo does both for me. Excellent work!

Comment left by: Eric Pederson (epederso@darkwing.uoregon.edu) Very nice lighting, colors, composition, everything...

Comment left by: benson (benson@research.haifa.ac.il) I like the shot. Beautiful and unusual composition. The horizontals - and the squiggle on the spout -really hold it all together.

Comment left by: bbbean (bbbean@beancotton.com) Beautiful - My only nit is that I wish the tea in the central container hadn't splashed up - everything else is so perfect and neat, that it distracts me.

Comment left by: Alasdair Mackintosh (Alasdair.Mackintosh@activerf.com) I love the way that the glass of the teapot distorts the strong horizontal lines into flowing curves.
Vivid and distinctive. Well done.

Comment left by: siddiq (no e-mail specified) easily my favourite of the lot, and assam's pretty good too :)

Comment left by: Jerome Anderson (jwak6pfp@cts.com) An attention getting commercial shot, good work winsor. I especially like your choice of colors as well as the background.

Comment left by: Lewis Powell (LewisTPowell@aol.com) A well composed photo with a good use of color and strong lines. Very peacefull and compelling. There is a lot of beauty in everyday objects and this photo is a great example!
