Here comes the rain

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Olaf Greve
Title: Here comes the rain
Gear used: OM-4Ti + Zuiko 24mm F2
Aperture used: Around f8
Shutter speed: Not certain, something like 1/125th
Film used: Kodak Ultra 400 ASA
Technical information: Nothing special, just point and shoot. I tried a few variations of this shot (both with as well as without usage of a foreground) and liked this one best.
Subject information: I had such great hopes for getting a shot that would illustrate just of how much influence water is to my country. Alas, I did not find myself in any good position to do so, so I had to compromise. I ended up shooting a variety of different subjects, trying to leave out the cliches. In the end I liked this shot best due to the drama that goes on in the sky. Needless to say the "water-aspect" of this shot is manifested by the clouds which were jam-packed with lots of fresh spring rain, pouring down in vast quantities only tens of seconds later.

Comment left by: The Photographer (no e-mail specified) Actually (as mentioned in the description), I did also take the shot without usage of the foreground. This created a rather unique effect as well, but I found that somehow an important reference was missing; all of a sudden the impact of the heavy clouds on the surroundings was lost, hence the choice for this shot.

Comment left by: Mickey Trageser (no e-mail specified) I didn't know Michelangelo was on the list! Great sky shot.

Comment left by: Winsor (no e-mail specified) Wonderful. So lucky to live in watery places.

Comment left by: Jim Caldwell (jamesfc@gte.net) I think I would prefer it without the trees also, but I would like to see some clouds like that over my house for a change! Florida is turning into a desert!

Comment left by: Jay Maynard (jmaynard@conmicro.cx) I agree; the trees and construction provide a necessary reference. The guys on that construction job are standing there, hoping they can get something done before they get soaked.

Comment left by: bbbean (bbbean@beancotton.com) Great cloud shot. I'd either lose the skyline and trees, or include enough detail to provide a better frame of reference.
