Water Root Reversal

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Moose
Title: Water Root Reversal
Gear used: OM-4 + Kiron 105/2.8 Macro
Diaphragm: f4
Shutter speed: 1/125
Film used: Kodak Portra 160NC
Technical information: Scanned on a Canonscan FS2710 and reduced to TOPE size with successive applications of unsharp mask and resampling in Photoshop.
Subject information: I took some nice water pictures at Yosemite during the TOPE period, but right near the end of the period, I was walking through the Botanical Gardens taking pictures of plants and flowers and came on this lovely little waterfall. The little stream passes through such dense vegetation at the top that the water pours off roots to create the fall. Although it was a bright day it was dark enough in this little grotto that I wished for faster film.. I needed both enough shutter speed to leave some form in the smooth flowing water at the top and enough depth of field to get at least the fall in focus. I think the picture captures some of the magic I saw.

Comment left by: bbbean (bbbean@beancotton.com) Very nice - I wasn't sure what I was seeing, and it drew me in. I'd love to see this in a much larger format.
