Subject info: The Museumplein in Amsterdam is the place where the famous Van Gogh Museum and the Rijksmuseum are located. This picture shows the Rijksmuseum in the background. The Museumplein was redesigned a couple of years ago; this long rectangular pool was part of the restyling. On hot days like this the pool is used for relaxing and cooling off by adults, children and... dogs. I sat at the very end of the pool right in the middle to get a symmetrical composition.

Without the dog the picture would not have been as exciting, with it, it's a wall hanger!

Comment left by: bbbean (bbbean@beancotton.com) Great shot. In a perfect world, I'd love to have seen you a step or two closer to the dog, and I would lose the hair on the scan. But this is a shot I'd hang on my wall in a minute.

Comment left by: Alasdair Mackintosh (Alasdair.Mackintosh@ntlworld.com) The dog really is perfectly positioned, isn't he? It's not a perfectly symmetrical composition, as the museum at the end of the pool is slightly to the right of centre, and this is nicely balanced by the dog being to the left of the centre, and looking off to the left.

Is this a scan of a print, or of the negative? It looks a little blurred, and probably doesn't do total justice to the original.
