Morris Creek

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Conrad Vogel
Title: Morris Creek
Gear used: OM-1n + 50/1.4 Silvernose + tripod
Diaphragm: f16
Shutter speed: 1 second
Film used: Fuji Provia 100F
Technical information: Slipping and sliding around on the rocks in the rain near dusk, the best piece of equipment I had were my boots. That and the bright 50/1.4 made the dark rocks a little easier to see. I took this about a half hour before sunset.
Subject information: Morris Creek, located in the Idaho Panhandle National Forest in Northern Idaho. This creek can really get out of control when the snow melts in the spring, with the bridge (behind me as I took the picture) being washed out two years ago. This may be a "cliche" sort of picture, but it was the best out of my first attempt at timed exposure water photography.

Comment left by: Olaf Greve (no e-mail specified) You may call it a cliche, but I like this effect.

Comment left by: Mickey Trageser (no e-mail specified) I really like the contrast of the soft flowing water and the sharp, textured rocks. Very nice!

Comment left by: Alasdair Mackintosh (Alasdair.Mackintosh@ntlworld.com) Good water effect, and very nicely composed. I like the way the line of the river moves through the frame.

Good use of a 50mm lens, too.

Comment left by: bbbean (bbbean@beancotton.com) No matter how many times I see similar water effects, I still admire a shot that uses the effect so well. Great composition. A wall hanger.

Comment left by: Winsor (no e-mail specified) I usually hate the flowing snow effect, originally created by large format photographers because of the limitations of their equipment and copied by 35mm landscape wannabees for the effect. However, I kind of like this one, especially if the top half is cropped out creating a very strong abstracted view of water and rocks.

Comment left by: Joel Wilcox (no e-mail specified) I like the flowing effect and the composition. The highlights seem just a little blown out. It's always a struggle to maintain detail in the both the water and the shadows. This may be the better compromise. So hard to tell with web images.
