Trash Day, Early Spring

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's Name: Larry Woods
Title: Trash Day, Early Spring
Gear used: OM-2n, Kiron 70-210mm F4 zoom lens, monopod
Exposure: 1/125 at f4. lens was somewhere around 80-100mm
Film: Kodak MAX 800
Subject information: Grey morning in the early spring. All colors in the natural environment were muted and pale, making the trash barrels look like garish interlopers. The light green litter around the barrels is maple tree buds which had been knocked down by the previous night's rain. The puddle just enhanced the gloominess to me. The grass color as reproduced, however, looks much brighter than my recollection at the time I took the picture.

I love the reflections, as well as the placement of the garbage cans in the composition.

Comment left by: Donald MacDonald (donald.macdonald@care4free.net) This photograph is rubbish ;-) Sorry, couldn't resist it (probably only just beat some others to it...)
I like puddle shots. Like Alice Through the Looking Glass, I always think. And the film's grain has made the bins look like they're painted with textured masonry paint.
Which gives me an idea for our wheely-bin...
Nice shot.

Comment left by: Marc Lawrence (mlawrence@cfp.com.au) This photograph is rubb...dammit, Donald, you beat me to it! ;-)
I love puddle-reflection photos, especially when they show such a clear and recognizable reflection, but cut the reflected subject off in some places ,such as not being able to see the full bins, but still recognising them as same. That reflection of the house with the lights on, which isn't in the "real" part of the picture is wonderful too. This is a definite fave.

Comment left by: Chris (imagopus@threeshoes.co.uk) A deceptively simple and attractive shot. You must be clever to have seen the compositional possibilities here. Well done!
