Submitter's name: Steve Goss
Title: For Sale
Gear used: OM2-N, Zuiko 24mm f2.8
Diaphragm: Unknown
Shutter speed: auto
Film used: Kodachrome 64
Technical information: I tried to hold the camera level, to minimize leaning verticals.
Subject information: Yes, this fabulous building can be yours! It's in a high section of town, and two stories taller than all the buildings around it, so it has wonderful views all the way around. Only $400,000.00. See: Leadville Democrat Archives for the full story. By the time we were there in late July, the roof had been covered with plywood, as you can barely see in the photo.

Comment left by: Olaf Greve (no e-mail specified) O.k., this is my favourite so far.
Brilliant perspective control with a normal 24! Then, the colours, and particularly that sky are simply great!

Comment left by: benson (benson@gsb.haifa.ac.il) That blue sky...I love it...where do you find them like that? I'm moving....! My kind of fixer upper - but my wife would kill me. Reminds me of that movie fighting club.

Comment left by: Anonymous Visitor You put Jeff Dick to shame. The Newspaper should have used your shot! Love the colors and composition.

I might consider cropping slightly, but only slightly. Nice job.

Comment left by: Donald MacDonald (donald.macdonald@care4free.net) Lovely shot, I could have done with that sky for my own entry. Wish I could learn to control my 24 as well as this.

Comment left by: Ian Nichols (i.a.nichols@bris.ac.uk) I wish I could get things to stand out that well without localised direct sunlight. A fine job on the verticals too. Was it taken from another building? a cherry picker?

Comment left by: Boris Grigorov (alienspecimen@excite.com) I like the athmosphere, it puts me in a Halloween mood.

Comment left by: Tiziana Ciaghi (ciaghitiziana@seldati.net) I like it. This shot reminds me the movie " Psycho"...Hitchcock and his dramatic atmosphere

Comment left by: Chuck Norcutt (chucknorcutt@attbi.com) Wow! An instant reminder of a similar abandoned mansion that I used to play in as a child. (Of course, mom and dad didn't know it). And, like everybody else, I'm amazed at the sky. Is this just plain old, ordinary K64 with no special filtration or fiddling?

Comment left by: siddiq (no e-mail specified) wow, i WISH we had skies like that here! this was done w/o a pol. filter?

Comment left by: The photograher (no e-mail specified) To Anonymous: The newspaper published the article just before we arrived. I'm afraid I can't time travel. Mailing the film half way across the country to Fairlawn NJ doesn't help either...

To Ian: The shot was taken from the ground, out by the curb. There was a lot more of that scrub brush in the photo before I cropped off the bottom. Plus, there's a really decrepit wrought iron fence around the property, that I couldn't get in the frame.

To Chuck: Plain old K64. No filters of any kind on the lens, but I do have a beat up metal hood. I had to rotate the image 1 degree to get the nearest corner to be vertical, and it was sharpened (or unsharp masked, I don't remember).

To Siddiq: Too lazy to put on the filter. This is Leadville, Colorado. The town is about 11,000 feet above sea level. There's just not that much air between you and outer space here, compared to where you or I live.

Comment left by: siddiq (no e-mail specified) amazing; thanks for the details

Comment left by: Wayne Harridge (no e-mail specified) Why does this shot just jump out from the screen ?
Excellent.

Comment left by: Chris Barker (no e-mail specified) I love the colours as well, and the building does stand out beautifully - excellent use of the lens I should say. However, I regret that the 2 buildings nearby could not be eliminated (in the photo ;-)).

Comment left by: John Wheeler (wheelej@optusnet.com.au) It's a fiddle! He's got a North American subject superimposed on a Sydney sky! (But beautifully done). I would also have made comment re Hitchcock. Great verticals, shot really exploits this excellent lens.
