The old Wurlitzer pipe organ factory in No...

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Chuck Norcutt
Title: The old Wurlitzer pipe organ factory in North Tonawanda, New York, USA (about half way between Buffalo and Niagara Falls on Niagara Falls Blvd)
Gear used: OM-2sp + Kiron 70-150 f/4 @ 70mm(?)
Diaphragm: f/8
Shutter speed: probably 1/500
Film used: Finast 100 (what was in the camera at the time)
Technical information: Required a touch of perspective correction in Picture Window
Subject information: I didn't know what I was going to do for an architectural subject when I suddenly remembered this building not far from where I was visiting. All I had available was the OM2sp with Kiron 70-150 and some supermarket rebranded Finast (Italy) 100 speed negative film. I wish I'd have had a polarizer to help the clouds stand out but, overall, it didn't come out too badly. A time other than 2:00 pm might have been better too but that's when I was able to be there.

I had seen this building before and wanted to shoot it because of the difference between the rust and deterioration visible at the top and the renewal at the bottom. This old Wurlitzer pipe organ and jukebox plant has been closed for many years but numerous small businesses operate out of the bottom floor in what is now known as the Wurlitzer Industrial Park. Remnants of the Wurlitzer company still exist in Germany manufacturing vending machines. It is ironic that Rudolf Wurlitzer came from Germany to the US in the 1850's and started this US company. It expanded to Europe after WWII and now the only remnant is in Germany where he started from. You can find a lot of information about the history of this company and other photos of this plant on the web.

Like the off center tower, but it seems to be leaning slightly.

Comment left by: Ian Nichols (i.a.nichols@bris.ac.uk) You know, I think you might have overdone the perspective correction very slightly. It's not leaning, it bulging out towards the top. Or perhaps it's an illusion caused by the transition in the background from surrounding buildings to sky. Otherwise, well done. I like the composition too.

Comment left by: Anon Amos (no e-mail specified) The building is leaning very slightly to the right. Since the camera was not on a tripod the photo required a bit of rotation along with the perspective correction. Slightly over or underdone on at least the rotation.

Comment left by: Jim Caldwell (jamesfc@gte.net) Very interesting building, but the one on the right looks like it is sagging slightly - was this from the adjustment, or is it actually sloping?
Nicely composed!!!
