I didn't know what I was going to do for an architectural subject when I suddenly remembered this
building not far from where I was visiting. All I had available was the OM2sp with Kiron 70-150 and
some supermarket rebranded Finast (Italy) 100 speed negative film. I wish I'd have had a polarizer to
help the clouds stand out but, overall, it didn't come out too badly. A time other than 2:00 pm might
have been better too but that's when I was able to be there.
I had seen this building before and wanted to shoot it because of the difference between the rust and
deterioration visible at the top and the renewal at the bottom. This old Wurlitzer pipe organ and
jukebox plant has been closed for many years but numerous small businesses operate out of the bottom
floor in what is now known as the Wurlitzer Industrial Park. Remnants of the Wurlitzer company still
exist in Germany manufacturing vending machines. It is ironic that Rudolf Wurlitzer came from Germany
to the US in the 1850's and started this US company. It expanded to Europe after WWII and now the only
remnant is in Germany where he started from. You can find a lot of information about the history of
this company and other photos of this plant on the web.
