Rush Creek Christian Church and Approachin...

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Gary Edwards
Title: Rush Creek Christian Church and Approaching Storm
Gear used: OM-1n + 21/3.5 + 15 (deep yellow) filter + tripod.
Diaphragm: f11
Shutter speed: 1/500
Film used: Tri-X at EI=250
Technical information: The 21 was leveled by eye, but since I left my bubble level at home, I was off a little. Minor keystoning removal was performed in PictureWindow software (the perspective correction funtion in Photoshop only works successfully about 10% of the time). Foreground cropped out, but full width of the vertical format retained. I also cropped out some very minor vignetting due to the non-thin rim filter. Exposure was too long, resulting in very little detail in the sunlit limestone wall. The image is presented as a duotone using Pantone 462 CVC ink (olive), which is similar to a warm-toned print.
Subject information: One of the few handsome, new churches in this town.

Comment left by: bbbean (bbbean@beancotton.com) When I saw the thumbnail, I was sure this had to be an HIE shot. Even after seeing it larger, I would have suspected a 25 or 29 filter. Nice work on the contrast and surreal lighting.

Comment left by: benson (benson@gsb.haifa.ac.il) This reminds me of our town. Very dramatic, great contrast and mood.

Comment left by: Chris Barker (imagopus@threeshoes.co.uk) I too liked the contrast in the thumbnail. The lines make this photo - nicely composed.

Comment left by: Ian Nichols (i.a.nichols@bris.ac.uk) Lovely dramatic lighting. Really brings out the angularity of the structure. And I'm so envious of that sky (though I don't think I'd want to be underneath what fell out of it).

Comment left by: Boris Grigorov (alienspecimen@excite.com) The composition and the capture of the light are perfect, but what I like the most is the mood.

Comment left by: Chuck Norcutt (chucknorcutt@attbi.com) Very nice. I can even envision the approaching storm in color.

Comment left by: Doro (no e-mail specified) I like this one a lot - the feeling to awaite the storm from a sheltered distance somehow.

Comment left by: Brian Swale (bj@caverock.net.nz) This is a really nice picture, as well as all the other things people above this comment have said.

The composition, visualisation and timing have worked extremely well with the result being a picture that one would be happy to hang on a wall and look at often.
