Dump Rake

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Daryl Hurley
Title: Dump Rake
Gear used: OM2n, Zuiko 135f2.8
Film used: Kodak Plus X Pan 125
Technical information: I used the 135mm to isolate the rake from some less attractive equipment nearby. I wanted a real foggy morning for this shot, to help me out with the background, but the TOPE shooting window was running out so I had to settle for a morning with a hardly noticible fog but at least the sky was overcast. The Plus X Pan just seemed to be the film to use to show age.
Subject information: One of the more attractive pieces of useful "scrap iron" sitting in the back yard. (I have modified this horse-drawn rake for use behind a small tractor to rake the lawn, right after I mow using a modified horse-drawn 5' sickle bar mower.)

Comment left by: Walt Wayman (no e-mail specified) I raked many an acre of hay long, long ago on one of these. We had a hay baler, but both my father and grandfather insisted that baled hay was for cattle. The horses got the old-fashioned loose hay. But if you pull it with a tractor, then I assume nobody’s riding it, so how do you stomp the foot pedal to make it dump?

Comment left by: Anonymous Visitor A 10 foot length of rope does the trick now that the kids are all old enough to realize its actually work, not fun.
