River Light

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Alasdair Mackintosh
Title: River Light
Gear used: OM-4 + 21/3.5
Diaphragm: f8 ?
Shutter speed: not recorded
Film used: Jessop's own-brand slide film (100 ASA)
Technical information: Taken near noon, on a rare sunny day. The window to the left of the image faces onto the river, and you can see both the direct light from the sun (shining downwards) and the reflected light from the river (shining upwards.)
Subject information: A corridor in St John's College, Cambridge. The building dates from the early 17th century, but has doubtless been replastered (and probably extensively rebuilt) many times since. The fire extinguisher adds a touch of modern colour.

Comment left by: Olaf Greve (no e-mail specified) I like the pattern of light on the wall, how did that come about (i.e. "downwards light" and "upwards light")?

Comment left by: Sean Davis (no e-mail specified) I love the delicate color and texture of the plaster interacting with the direction(s) of the light. Very effective at providing mood. Though I would like the shot better without the fire extinguisher, it does provide a touch of humor!

Comment left by: Chris Barker (imagopus@threeshoes.co.uk) Nicely spotted. I like the shape of the reflections, although I could have done without the extiguisher... ;-)
