29 Again

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Jim Caldwell
Title: 29 Again
Gear used: Olympus E-10, remote Metz Flash
Diaphragm: F5.6
Shutter speed: 1/60
Film used: Digital
Technical information: Placed a reflector over the built-in flash to bounce it from the ceiling and used a Metz 40 MZ-1i as a slave placed to enhance the light coming in from the window (handheld by my wife!)
Subject information: A photo of my Dad on his 82nd birthday - I would have liked the background to be a bit softer, but one of the drawbacks of the smaller digital CCD is a deeper depth of field! So, I used the 'blur tool' in Photoshop to soften it a bit more.

Hmmm, just curious, but does the age (or number) of 29 have some special meaning to your father (perhaps when he met or married your mother)?

Comment left by: Jim Caldwell (jamesfc@gte.nte) Hi Olaf - no special meaning to the 29! More or less a visual joke - after all, even as we age, we all feel the same inside. 29 seems to be a cut-off age leading into middle age from youth.

Comment left by: Diego Sierralta (no e-mail specified) My grandfather likes to reverse his age when asked -- so that would make your dad 28 :)

Comment left by: Olaf Greve (no e-mail specified) Hmmm, last year I turned 30. "Good" to know I've now progressed from being a youth to being middle-aged. :0

Comment left by: Jim Caldwell (jamesfc@gte.net) Well, I was about 30 when a Doctor referred to me as "middle aged". I wanted to punch the 'young wippersnapper' in the nose!!! But, it's all perspective - I'm 52 now and still consider myself "middle aged"!!!
