Technical information:	The original slide has a full range of tones, but is too dark. Boosting the brightness after scanning would have washed out all detail in the bright wall on the left of the image. Instead, "Curves" was used in Photoshop 5.0LE to: (1) maintain at their original level the brightest tones in the top quarter of the curve, (2) brighten the dark tones in the botton half of the curve, and (3) join the botton half with the top quarter (which compresses the relatively few upper midrange tones that occupy that region of the curve).
