Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: John A. Lind
Title: The Old Homestead
Gear used: OM-4 + 35-105mm f/3.5~4.5 Zuiko Zoom (MC) + hand held
Diaphragm: f/11
Shutter speed: Not recorded; likely 1/250th
Film used: Kodachrome 64
Technical information: Selected early morning for lighting. Used the 35-105/3.5~4.5 for its excellent contrast and sharpness, and for swift subject composition.
Subject information: Made during the 2nd Annual Great Road Trip in early November. Saw this old wood frame house while driving into a small Oklahoma town late at night. Stopped and photographed it early the next morning as I was leaving.

Comment left by: Chris (imagopus@threeshoes.co.uk) You are lucky to have so much light available (1/250th at f11 with K64!). My initial reaction to the photo was to think that it needed to be cropped a little to the building alone, but I like the shapes made by the windows compared with the surroundings. Attractive photo.

Comment left by: Mickey Trageser (no e-mail specified) Great shot, and sharp as anyone could want.

Comment left by: John A. Lind (no e-mail specified) Thanks. Getting this scanned was a quest in itself.

Pulled the shutter speed from best I could remember (hence, "likely"). I do recall being surprised by the fast shutter speed being metered by the OM-4 given the film speed. I had expected 1/125th along the lines of the "sunny-16" rule.

Everything anyone could want in a home:
Fenced yard,
Fully landscaped with trees and shrubs,
Air conditioned,
Skylight(s), and
Environmentally friendly wind turbine power generator

More seriously:
When I saw this one or two room small shanty, I had visions of a family living there, barely making it through the Oklahoma dust bowl during the Great Depression, complete with barefoot child(ren) sitting on the threshold of the front door, and a farm dog napping next to them. As this was on the very edge of town, my educated guess is that at one time it was well outside of town and likely was a very small farm.

Thanks
-- John
P.S.
There are some great shots in this TOPE and quite a display of imagination interpreting what "shows age" means!
