Submitter's name: Walt Wayman
Title: You Can't Go Home Again
(With apologies to Thomas Wolfe)
Gear used: OM-1n + MD1 + 50/3.5 Zuiko Macro
Diaphragm: f/8
Shutter speed: 1/60
Film used: Kodak Plus-X
Technical information: Shot in late February hand-held and in a hurry because it was cold, windy and starting to rain. Film developed in D-76 1:1, scanned at 2400 dpi with a Hewlett Packard S20, reduced to TOPE size in Picture Window Pro 3.1. It's time for a new scanner. Too much detail got lost.
Subject information: The big, two-story house that stood on this hill for a century and a half burned to the ground several years ago. The front entrance and a few charred, but still living, trees are all that remain now that the three big chimneys have been knocked down and the stones hauled away.

Comment left by: Olaf Greve (no e-mail specified) I like this shot a lot.

At first glance I thought this was a railway, then I noticed it was a staircase leading up to...nothing! Really nice, and where does one find places like these nowadays?!? :)

There's one thing that tremendously bothers me in the picture, but that couldn't be avoided by you, and that's the big tree directly to the left of the staircase. Somehow my eyes immediately get drawn to that, taking away all attention from the staircase. I tried blocking that part from sight by putting my fingers on it, and that resulted in an image which I found more pleasing. But then, that tree must have been there for a long time, so in a way it belongs in the shot. :)

Comment left by: Alan Wayman (no e-mail specified) For me, quite a spooky picture. I like the way the trees on the left sort of force you to look harder into the space on the right which includes the path.

Comment left by: Wayne Harridge (no e-mail specified) Great image, I wonder what's over the horizon ?

Comment left by: Andy Radcliffe (AndyJRadcliffe@manx.net) Nice idea - it is rather intriguing , the staircase going nowhere! Were it not for the tree on the left of the steps it works even better for me cropped to just above the horizon, as a panoramic image.
The tree trunk removes this possibilty however (in my opinion anyway)
