Meagan

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Adam Bolt
Title: Meagan
Gear: OM-4 (yes... OM-4, bought from a list member this last week and this is the first roll through it... so you can imagine my excitement with it.... it is soooooo much better than the OM-10 and I have a roll of slides back from the weekend as well taken the day after and they are superb!... will have to get them scanned and posted to show!), Zuiko 35-70mm f4
Aperture: f5.6
Shutter speed: unrecorded
Film used: Kodak TCN400 B&W
Subject information: This was taken at one of my favourite places down at the spit here on the Gold Coast Australia. The sand dunes provide some excellent fill when a subject is close to the ground. Meagan was positioned on top of the dune where the last rays of sun light were just striking her head and arms. You can see the drop off in light where her body is in the shade behind the top of the dune. The OM-4 was set to auto and a spot metering was taken off her face. The aperture was set at f5.6 to soften the background and really make her eyes stand out. The shot was taken for some friends that are starting in the makeup business wanting to get some images for their portfolios. So they provided the models for the day and the makeup.

Great pose, lovely bokeh and just look at those tack-sharp eyes; fabulous shot!

Comment left by: Wayne Harridge (no e-mail specified) Better start using a Holga so the rest of us don't have so much competition !

Comment left by: Juan Carlos Pachon (jcpachon@tutopia.com) Adam, congratulations by the photo and the OM-4 the eyes of the girl are so very expresive.

Comment left by: Saso (no e-mail specified) Oi! You're not allowed to do that! :-) Great shot, Adam. The eyes really, really stand out.

Comment left by: Lama (no e-mail specified) Yeah, this is a really nice shot. But did I read it right? Some friends asked you to take pictures of models at the beach? As a favor? What a life!

Comment left by: Brian Swale (bj@caverock.net.nz) Great shot; I agree with other comments about the eyes. And I understand your excitement with using the OM4T for the first time. Isn't it amazing how we often see other possibilities in a subject. I think that if I had the chance to photograph Meagan I would have found a way to concentrate on her face with that smooth complexion and those amazing eyes; leaving out the other details of the existing shot. Her face has many photographic possibilities, and I think I'd try light that is less concentrated than late afternoon light.. But I'm not a person photographer. Brian

The light is very good on the face, maybe to be more involved as the central theme but overall it is a very pleasant photo. Well done bolt!
