Bristles and Beads #4

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's Name: Kurt Klein
Title: Bristles and Beads #4
Gear used: OM-2, Zuiko 35-70/3.5-4.5, 14mm extension tube
Diaphragm: f/3.5
Shutter speed: Auto, exposure compensation -2/3, ~1/30-1/60
Film used: Provia 100F
Technical information: This was one of my first auto exposure pictures, so I forgot to change the exposure compensation to 0.  The slide looks fantastic, though.  I was testing the 35-70's macro capabilities, which explains why I  was not using my 50/3.5.
Subject information: An especially heavy marine layer in LA resulted in heavy mist/light rain over several days in Pasadena.  I love the depth and texture that water drops add to subjects.

Comment left by: Chris (ftog at threeshoes.co.uk) Lovely focus and range of tones. I like the bokeh and the sharpness... all in all a great shot for me.

Comment left by: Wayne Shumker (om4t@zuik.net) The composition is nice, not a bad shot at all. But, based on my recent learnings from another photographer, I think this shot needs a longer focal length to increase the separation from the background. That would simplify it and make it a better composition. The eye is drawn to the left and slightly down to the out of focus background of 'stuff' (chaos) which takes away from the beautiful dew covered plant. Try a 200mm with extension, for example. This is a great shot, but could be elevated one more notch.

Comment left by: Michael Smoker (smokermike@yahoo.com) Seeing your picture makes me even more anxious for the Zuiko 35-70 3.5-4.5 for my OM2 that I ordered last week to arrive.
