Submitter's name: Duncan Paterson
Title: Befreiungshalle bei Kelheim
Gear used: OM-3Ti + 35~80/2.8 at 35 mm, hand held.
Diaphragm: Probably f5.6 or f8
Shutter speed: Probably 1/250 or 1/125
Film used: Fujifilm Superia 100.
Technical information: Centre-weighted metering. Negative scanned on a Canon FS4000US.
Subject information: The Befreiungshalle (Liberation Hall) was commissioned by King Ludwig I of Bavaria as a memorial to the German soldiers who fought against Napoleon's army during the Wars of Liberation (1813-1815). This imposing structure stands on the top of the Michelsberg overlooking the Danube near the town of Kelheim in southern Germany. Above the door is inscribed "Den Teutschen Befreiungskaempfern / Ludwig I / Koenig von Bayern / MDCCCLXIII. The late afternoon sun produced pleasant shadows and enhanced the yellow colour of the masonry. I visited it with some friends after a river cruise through the impressive Danube gorge ending at the Weltenburger Klosterbrauerei which was founded in 1050 and is reputedly the oldest monastic brewery in the world.

Comment left by: Daniel Danrich (danrich@hawaii.rr.com) Love the shadow detail and clarity, nicely done.

Comment left by: siddiq (no e-mail specified) absolutely *lovely*, great exposure and scanning! one thing i might have also tried was move over to the right slightly, so the three columns in the lower part of the picture would be centred, and as a side benefit, the "terminator" shadow/bright split would run right down the middle. perhaps there were other obstacles, but that come to mind as another perspective, but definitely one of my favourites!
