Castle Geyser & watch dog

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Paul Connet
Title: Castle Geyser & watch dog
Gear used: OM-4 + Tamron 70-150/f3.5 at 150mm
Diaphragm: f8
Shutter speed: Auto, speed unknown
Film used: Kodak Max 400
Technical information: Bright sunny day, so I just set the camera on auto and f8 knowing that the shutter speed would be around 1/1000 and no worry about hand-holding for the snaps.
Subject information: Castle Geyser, in the geyser basin of Yellowstone National Park, USA.
Shot from the backside during a period of relative quietness. The bison also was quietly swishing his tail to stir up a little dust.

The Yellowstone park geysers are very fine natural landmarks indeed. The bison is icing on the cake; it creates for a distinctively raw natural image.

Comment left by: Daniel Danrich (danrich@hawaii.rr.com) Great composition, picture is actually timeless with the subject matter.

Comment left by: Duncan Paterson (no e-mail specified) Nice combination of subjects, both possessing a lot of latent power.

Comment left by: Brian Swale ( ::: ) Two monuments in one ! Very effective composition, strongly relating these two ancient acquaintances.
A great photograph.
You have captured an essence of the general landscape as well.
Just how close were you to the bison? It seems to be ( I don't know bison behaviour at all) that maybe he was a little irritated by seeing a human so close.

Comment left by: Alan Connet (drtrider57@yahoo.com) Nice shot Uncle Paul! Great effect of the dust that almost makes it look like he is floating on the ground.
