Dune.

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Ken Norton
Title: Dune.
Gear used: OM-4 + 35/2.8 (SC) with Red 25 and Polorizer.
Exposure: Unrecorded, but used multispot metering in manual mode to place values in appropriate Zones and keep the highlights and shadows within the latitude of the film.
Film used: Ilford Delta 100, processed in DD-X. Rated at 100.
Technical information: Handheld photograph.  Stood in the creek at the base of the dune.  Used the red filter and polarizer to achieve the dramatic sky.
Subject information: Great Sand Dunes National Monument.  Colorado.  Less than a mile from this location the creek simply disappears into the sand. Used the trusty 4WD vehicle (almost made it into the TOPE as the subject instead of this picture) to get to this spot.

Comment left by: Chris (ftog at threeshoes.co.uk) Nice use of the filters to reduce the sky to a dark backdrop. I might have been tempted to reduce the shot still further by removing the dull sand in the foreground.

Comment left by: Garry D. Lewis (glewis747@aol.com) Is that an eye in that cloud?
seriously--
I like the way the massive weight of the cloud on the right, balances the massive weight of the dune on the left. Almost looks infared without the characteristic grain.
