Submitter's name: Alan wayman
Title: Hanging on
Gear used: (orig pics) OM 1+50mm/1.4, (composite) OM2n+vivitar 35-70mm zoom
Diaphragm: All pics f16
Shutter speed: Not recorded
Film used: Ilford FP4 super processed in ID 11 .
Technical information: I used the 50mm to take a series of pictures of the old tree. The idea was to make a collage of half a dozen or so, but in the end, these two worked best (IMO).
I tried then photographing the two pics 'in synch' against a number of backgrounds and in different lighting conditions and again, this is the one that worked best for me.
Subject information: This tree is near the highway as I drive to & from work each day. It's been exactly like this every day for the past twenty years that I've been passing by. The area is about to be subdivided into a housing estate, and soon this tree will not be there any more. If you look carefully, you may see that it was cut down once, but grew back and over the original stump. It was also a functioning fence corner post somewhere in its life. This tree still strikes me as a powerful thing, and I wanted my image to convey this power, and the sense of history I feel when I look at it.
