Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Charlie Geilfuss
Title: Angel Oak
Gear Used: OM-4Ti with Silvernose 24/2.8 mounted on Bogen tripod.
Diaphragm: f8
Shutter Speed: 1/4 second
Film Used: Kodak Ektachrome 100 at rated speed.
Technical Info: Spot metered on the ground leaf litter. Image scanned by local photoshop. Digital image tweaked in Picture Window 3.5 to sharpen and "correct" color so that it more resembles the transparency.
Subject: Angel Oak, Johns Island, SC. Every branch, limb and leaf in this photo belongs to one magnificent Live Oak tree. It's true age is unknown but is estimated to be 700-1400 years. The trunk circumference is 25.5 feet and the canopy shades an area of 17,000 square feet. It's a very special place to visit and is humbling to sit in the shade of such a massive and ancient creature. Has a very Tolkienesque feel to it.

Comment left by: Duncan Paterson (no e-mail specified) Wonderful tree. Difficult to appreciate the scale of it but I think the 24 mm does a good job.

Comment left by: Brian Swale ( ... ) There is a great three-dimensional feel to this shot, and the 24mm also has the tremendous depth of field needed.
What a tree!! I like it.
