Stream at Deadman's Bay

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Mike Lazzari
Title: Stream at Deadman's Bay
Gear used: OM-4Ti + 50/2 + tripod. Neg scanned w/ HP PhotoSmart
Diaphragm: f16 or f32
Shutter speed: auto
Film used: Fuji Superia 400
Technical information: Got right in the creek with the tripod. Set aperture to f16 or f32 for greatest depth of field and to blur the water. Sun to shadow exceeded the latitude of the film and so the upper left of the photo was a bit washed out. I applied a linear gradient dodge using PS Elements 2. Slight sharpen.
Subject information: This little seasonal creek flows through a maple and fir shrouded canyon and into Deadman's Bay only 150 meters distant. Low angle late afternoon sun only reaches down in here for a few minutes this time of year so get it while you can.

Comment left by: Olaf Greve (no e-mail specified) I had wondered if someone would have a go at such a shot. :)

I always like this effect. Nicely done!

Comment left by: Mickey Trageser (no e-mail specified) Nice smooth flow. Crisp fern leaves. Well done, especially in the creek. Looks like the camera was held nice and solid.

Comment left by: Chris (ftog at threeshoes.co.uk) Nicely done.

Comment left by: Ian Nichols (i.a.nichols@bris.ac.uk) Lovely colours - you sure it wasn't E100SW? ;) The blue water particularly gives it a bit of a fantastical look.

Comment left by: Donald MacDonald (donald.macdonald@care4free.net) Mmmm, nice composition and well executed. Lovely colour.

Comment left by: Daniel Danrich (danrich@hawaii.rr.com) I've always wanting to do a water picture like this.
I love when water smoothes out when using longer exposures.
Great colors and composition, this is what OM is all about! Great Job!

Comment left by: John Wheeler (wheelej@optusnet.com.au) A lovely picture. Great colours and tonings together with nice composition. Fits the theme perfectly.

Comment left by: Bob Docherty (no e-mail specified) I can only aspire to perform this type of shot. Well done!

Comment left by: Jim Caldwell (jamesfc@gte.net) I'm always a sucker for slow shutter speeds on moving water - great shot!

Comment left by: Alasdair Mackintosh (tope@toomanybooks.org) The wet surface of the fern comes over really well, and there's lovely detail in the shadows.

I can see what you mean about the problems with exposure latitude, but I think that the end result works really well.

Comment left by: Fernando (fgnzalez@mednet.org.uy) Beautiful. Congratulations.
Would like to see a version without PS at your site.
