Grandfather's Tools

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Wayne Culberson
Title: Grandfather's Tools
Gear used: Olympus C5050 Program Mode
Media Used: XD Picture Card
Techincal information: Camera was set on a stair-tread for stability, set in program mode, using on camera flash, auto focus. Nothing fancy at all, as I wanted to use the most modern of my cameras in complete auto mode, in contrast to the last TOPE where I used my most basic Olympus camera, the Trip 35.
Subject information: Some of these were my great-grandfather's tools that he used in his wood-working shop. I can remember watching him in his shop when I was just a small boy. Also there are a few tools that belonged to my grandfather that he used on the farm. These are now displayed on this wall of my camp.

Comment left by: Olaf Greve (no e-mail specified) Nice subject, I too like the fact that (good) tools have been made to last an eternity. Probably these tools will still be in fine shape, long after we will have ceased to exist.

One thing I noticed in the exposure: just like my C2020, the C5050 seems to slightly overexpose in Program - flash mode. I'm referring to the centre vertical beam, in particular. Often I find results to be more pleasing when underexposing by 0.3, 0.7, or 1 stop. Just as a test (to see which results you like best), you might want to try such bracketing and checking the results.
