Cemetary Magnolia

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Mike Mitchell
Title: Cemetary Magnolia
Gear used: OM-4T + 50/1.4, Bogen 3221W with Bogen 3047 head
Diaphragm: f4
Shutter speed: Auto aprox. 12 seconds
Film: Kodak TCN400
Technical Information: First attempt at B/W at night,I just let the camera and the full moon do all the work.
Subject Information: Old cemetary in Collierville, Tennessee. I liked the way the magnolia tree filled the frame and the little walkway in front that seemed to invite you towards the large monument. You'd be amazed at how quick you can shoot 36 frames in a cemetary at 11:00 at night.
I have no idea what that white glow is that shows up on the left center of the frame. It was in all 3 of the shots I took from this position.

The white glow in the left of the picture... A "ghost" perhaps? :)

Comment left by: Morgan Sparks (msparks@together.net) Now I wish I had submitted a cemetery image, too. I'd like to see a tighter shot of the monument. Nicely done!

Comment left by: Wayne Harridge (wayne.harridge@compaq.com) Nice - looks like a visit to my local cemetery is in order.

Comment left by: Ian Nichols (i.a.nichols@bris.ac.uk) The headstone near the left edge appears to be stronly side/backlit, so I'd guess the white glow is flare from whatever is illuminating that.

Comment left by: Barry Bean (bbbean@beancotton.com) My wife just got back several graveyard shots with a strange distortion as well.... Maybe you weren't alone!

Comment left by: Wiliam Wagenaar (wiliam2@wish.net) Courageous indeed! I once shot at a graveyard in daytime for a themed photo "Emotion", but I didn't feel comfortable taking photo's there. It felt like intruding in the privacy of the people. Except the ghost and the wind-blurred magnolia there is nothing in the picture that shows it's a night shot however.
