April Shower

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Norman Carr
Title: April Shower
Gear used: OM2000. Vivitar Series1 70-210mm. Tripod.
Diaphragm: f8 or f11, I think.
Shutter speed: 1 sec.
Film used: Velvia.
Technical information: 81A filter, lens set around 150mm. Cropped slightly in Photoshop on the vertical.
Subject information: Very nearly but not quite night, so I hope this counts. On my way home on a cool spring evening after some rain. A back-road near Burbank, Eastern Washington. I noticed the reflection of the nearly finished sunset in the line of puddles at the side of the road. Set up the camera and tripod, metered from the sky, waited a couple of minutes for some traffic and hoped for the best.

Comment left by: Olaf Greve (olaf_greve@hotmail.com) The idea of shooting the puddles creates a very nice composition, cool!
BTW: Strangely enough there seems to be some sort of rectangle around the red lights in the right of the picture, did you paste this part in digitally or was there something else framing it?!?

Comment left by: siddiq (siddim01@student.ucr.edu) could be the car's paint reflecting the sky during exposure, no?

Comment left by: Norm (normc@writeme.com) Ummm... nope, no photoshoppery (apart from a bit of contrast adjustment and a small crop, as mentioned). I can't see it, myself... but the scan was done on only an ES10 and I've only an 800 monitor, so maybe you can see something I can't. I'll dig out the slide and see if there's something there that I didn't see before.

Comment left by: Olaf Greve (olaf_greve@hotmail.com) Hmm, over here at work it's visible, but not as much as at home. It becomes clearer when you crank up the brightness of the monitor all the way. Weird, I wonder what it is...

Comment left by: Ian Nichols (i.a.nichols@bris.ac.uk) Mmmmmm, the line of puddles, the horizontal stripes in the sky and that swoopy curve of tree-tops.... and those colours.... lovely.

Comment left by: Wiliam Wagenaar (wiliam2@wish.net) Good composition and great colours in the puddles. I am wondering about the rectangle to however. Could live without it (and the streaking car lights in it).

Comment left by: John Palmer (no e-mail specified) Lovely effect on the puddles - like holes you could fall through straight into the fires of hell! Very nice pic.
