Quebec's night beauty

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Francois Corriveau
Title: Quebec's night beauty
Gear used: OM-10, Vivitar Series 1 70-210 @ 180mm
Diaphragm: F8
Shutter speed: Approx. 3,5 sec. (on B mode)
Film used: Kodakcolor Gold 200 ASA.
Technical information: It was my first attempt ever for night photography. I took a shot on auto to have an idea of the right exposure but I knew that the meter would not be correct.
Then I switched on B mode, holding the body and the lens firmly and tried several shots.
Subject information: Well, it's "Le Château Frontenac" in Quebec city. Great castle, n'est-ce pas?
I took the picture from Lévis, wich is on the South side of St-Lawrence River.
Québec is a beautiful city, especially at night: I hope some of you will have the chance to take Le Chateau by yourselves!

Comment left by: Olaf Greve (olaf_greve@hotmail.com) The choice of focal lenght was spot on!
The 180mm you chose did a very nice job in compressing the distance just enough to make a nicely filled picture.
This is easily on of my favourite submissions, very nice!

Comment left by: Wayne Harridge (wayne.harridge@compaq.com) This looks a bit like a "composite" shot, I really like the way the castle is "floating".

Comment left by: Barry Bean (bbbean@beancotton.com) Nice! I've wanted to go to Quebec for a while, and this just adds to the fascination.

Comment left by: Ron Spolarich (caesar2@mediaone.net) Beautiful shot! However, a tripod is a must. I've taken several shots of this beauty at night last year on our first visit but not from your vantage point. A truly beautiful city!

Comment left by: Francois Corriveau (francoiscorriveau@hotmail.com) Although it's obvious, I forgot to mention that I used a tripod. Thanks all for the comments!

Comment left by: Boris Grigorov (grigorov@slu.edu) Beautiful shot. And well composed too. I wander how did the picture on auto turn out to be?

Comment left by: Scott Nelson (scottcnelson@4dv.net) The choice of kit and film demonstrates once again that it's the photog NOT the tool!

Comment left by: Wiliam Wagenaar (wiliam2@wish.net) Very nice shot. The chateau really stands out and looks a lot like the ones I saw in France. Was it built with one of them as a model?

Comment left by: siddiq (siddim01@student.ucr.edu) absolutely charming! i'd love to see the place in life.

Comment left by: Norm (no e-mail specified) Wow, what a magnificent building.
