Glowing Honda

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: James Kiker
Title: Glowing Honda
Gear used: OM-2n + 50/1.4
Diaphragm: 1.4
Shutter speed: Unrecorded
Film used: Fuji Superia 800
Technical information: 3rd brake light of my Nissan Pickup was used to light the subject.
Subject information: This is my 1965 Honda Trail 90 motorcycle, in the back of my pickup. I was transporting it, and noticed the beautiful twilight sky in the rearview mirror. I decided to try to photograph it, and when pulling over, noticed how the brake light illuminated the bike. I decided to take the photo through the back glass with the brake depressed, and came out with this very interesting picture. This is a straight scan, with no manipulation in Photoshop.

A very original idea, and what a great result!
Nice pastel colours in the background too!

Comment left by: Dave Bulger (david_bulger@austintx.net) GREAT concept and execution!

Comment left by: Ian Nichols (i.a.nichols@bris.ac.uk) You know, that's an effect I try to avoid when taking colour pictures of bands playing.... but it's given this shot an interestingly surreal feeling.

Comment left by: Barry Bean (bbbean@beancotton.com) Wild. I was sure this was a photoshop production, or possibly cross-processed infrared film. Very cool.

Comment left by: Ron Spolarich (caesar2@mediaone.net) Love the color and an excellent image. When your eyes are truly open to your surroundings it's amazing what we miss!

Comment left by: Francois Corriveau (francoiscorriveau@hotmail.com) Well done! The red light gives a really "unreal" feeling to the picture. Cool background too.

Comment left by: Wiliam Wagenaar (wiliam2@wish.net) One fine example of an experiment turning out into a great foto! Would never have gueassed how this was done. Would have suspected a lot more technical work in this one.

Comment left by: Norm (no e-mail specified) Like it. Great idea. Impressive saturation in the background sky.

Comment left by: Francisco Campos (Oly Mainlist Member) (sinclair@tba.com.br) One of the greatest photos I ever seen. Congratulations!
