MK Point.

Submitter's name: Piers Hemy
Title: MK Point.
Gear used: OM-3 + 24/3.5.
Diaphragm: f8
Shutter speed: 1/2000
Film used: Fuji Superia 400 ASA.
Technical information: 24mm shift used to get maximum cloudscape without distorted perspective buildings. A small amount of adjustment in PS for DIverging verticals in one corner!
Subject information: Milton Keynes (MK) is a new-build city, begun nearly 40 years ago. The pyramid is an early (for UK) multiplex cinema which has just closed (not multi enough for today's market). The scene shows well the design ethos of the city: plenty of green trees, wide open space and good provision for traffic. I was taken by the contrast between the steel structure and buildings, the trees and the sky. In the background, what claims to be Europe's longest under-cover shopping mall, boasting 3 miles of shop-fronts. Forgive me, I'm not bowled over, the image really shows that MK lacks what makes a real city - variety, character, soul.

Comment left by: Chris Barker (ftog@threeshoes.co.uk) Well spotted. I don't like MK either but art does not have to be loved ...!

Comment left by: Jeff Keller (no e-mail specified) Your subject info definitely adds value to the picture. Your vantage point was well chosen to show the "character". I would bet you could make an interesting series of photos.

Comment left by: Andrew Wendelborn (no e-mail specified) Almost surreal effect -- suits the subject matter well.
Excellent use of 24 shift.
