Pile head at low tide

Submitter's name: Wiliam Wagenaar
Title: Pile head at low tide
Gear used: Olympus E-1 and Digital Zuiko 14-54mm/2.8-3.5 at 23mm (46 in 35mm format)
Diaphragm: 3.2
Shutter speed: 1/60 sec. (Programm at ISO 100)
Film used: 1GB Sandisk Ultra II
Technical information: Zoomed and walked around to get these 3 poles closely fit in the viewfinder.
Subject information: I went to the same place as I was for the former TOPE (City Scapes) espacially to shoot some "simple" pictures on the beach. Well making simple pictures it not so simple after all, picture that ;-) . I made about two dozen shots for this TOPE. I also shot the sand on the beach with some shells in it and some grooves made by the receding water. I did not like that shot as much as I like this one. It fills the 4/3 format quite well. I still have to get used to this new format. What I like especially in this shot are the rings of sand around the poles. I think they were left behind by the wind blowing the sand over the water when it receded. Also the light was very diffuse at the time I made the shot, which gave the moss on the middle pole the nice warm but natural coloring.

Comment left by: Olaf Greve (no e-mail specified) Very nice!
The only thing I keep wishing for in this shot is a slightly less present background, e.g. a blue sky, the sea, or simply a completely blurred out version (shallow DOF) of the current background. Nonetheless a great shot!

Comment left by: Piers Hemy (no e-mail specified) Again, I agree completely with Olaf. If only you could have got a bit more elevation, to lose the background piles - since I assume you cannot get less Depth of Field (you are almost at full aperture?)

Comment left by: Chris Barker (no e-mail specified) Nice shot Wiliam.
