1 + 1 = 2

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Walt Wayman
Title: 1 + 1 = 2
Gear used: OM-4Ti + MD2 + 50mm f/2 Zuiko Macro + Manfrotto 3221 tripod w/405 head + Adorama Macro Focusing Rail + T45 + Quantum Turbo Z + T20 + other stuff (mostly wires and connectors)
Diaphragm: f/16
Shutter speed: 1/60 (set)
Film used: Kodak Professional Plus-X 125
Technical information: Cameras on their backs, outer ends propped up at a slight angle, on three or four sheets of white tissue paper on a glass-top table; hand-held T45 bounced off an old Spiratone silver umbrella held in the other hand, with a T20 pointed straight up below the table to wash out the background. Aperture of f/16 was required to get enough DOF. Exposure was TTL + one stop to compensate for the strong backlight. Plus-X developed in D-76 1:1, scanned with a Minolta 5400.
Subject information: A pair of well-preserved OM-1n bodies, with examples of early and late 50mm f/1.8 Zuikos. Their simplicity makes them my simple solution to the simply inevitable electronic failure of the less-simple OM-4s and 4T(i)s. It would be simply awful to have nothing on which to use all those simply wonderful Zuikos. Simple, huh?

Comment left by: Olaf Greve (no e-mail specified) Hehehe, a "most simple" gear set-up for making this "simple" shot. ;)
Very good result!

Comment left by: Piers Hemy (no e-mail specified) I was going to say "well lit and exposed" and then I saw just *how* well lit. Masterful! But are there cracks in their hotshoes? By the way my compliments apply solely to the visual elements above - those words would never have got past a sub with any principles!

Comment left by: Rob Smith (no e-mail specified) Jealous of this picture. It is incredibly sharp and well lit and free from nasty shadows. A picture as good as this is something for me to aim at.

Comment left by: Chris Barker (no e-mail specified) Nicely done Walt. Thanks for the explanation as well; I'm always thinking of trying to get this sort of high-key background.

Comment left by: Jason Gidden (no e-mail specified) Love the symetry and the yin and yang feel of the opposing colour bodies. Oh and I agree, great lighting!

Comment left by: M G Flink (mgflink@cox.net) Absolutely tack sharp! Takes me back to yesteryear when this picture could have lauched the OM line in any publication.
