Colours and lines

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Olaf Greve
Title: Colours and lines
Gear used: Olympus Camedia C2020Z
Aperture used: Auto (judging from the second line in the background it must have been a rather big aperture though)
Shutter speed used: Unrecorded, but around 1/100th or so
Media used: Smart Media
Technical information: Not a whole lot, just compose (avoiding distracting elements from the surrounding), let the AF focus on the cloth pegs, and fire away.
Subject information: Well, here I was in one the world's most beautiful countries during a TOPE event, and all I shot were just some cloth pegs; just my luck that the theme happened to be "simplicity", instead of "Nature" or so. :( Anyway, I liked the way the colours of the cloth pegs, and the abstract lines contrasted against the sky which was dotted with clouds. I hope the shot is simple enough for everyone's likings. :)
Digital edits: I cropped the lower part (which also solely contained sky) off of the picture, in order to get more emphasis on the pegs and lines. I also tried digitaly cloning out the second line in the background, but somehow I liked the end result less than with the line present in the shot.

Comment left by: Richard Lovison (no e-mail specified) I like this image... not sure why, I just do. :) Maybe because it brings a smile?

Comment left by: Brian Swale (no e-mail specified) To my eyes it looks as though the camera has also fired off the flash despite the photo being taken in daylight.

This gives a surreal appearance to the image, I think. Unexpected. Seems to make the pegs look to be even more in focus.

Comment left by: Olaf Greve (no e-mail specified) Brian, I think you're right. I definitely do remember having the same shot with counterlight as well. I think the camera indeed used the flash when I set the focus (and the light reading?) on the pegs.

Comment left by: Bill Barber (nsurit@aol.com) Nice eye! Thanks for sharing it. Like Richard, it brings a smile to my face. You have shown us the beauty in the mundane.

Comment left by: M G Flink (mgflink@cox.net) Soft muted colors of pins and sky with the second line looking like a reflection of the first gives an ethereal feeling to the picture that is appealing to the eye.

Comment left by: Roy Talbot (rtalbot@laborready.com) Wonderful photo. So soft and relaxing. Needs to be framed and hung in an art museum.
