Submitter's Name: Jason Gidden
Title: Harmony
Gear used: OM-4 + Zuiko 50mm f3.5 (on self timer) + Velbon Sherpa 750 Tripod and available light.
Diaphragm: f8 (I think)
Shutter speed: 1/30
Film used: Kodak Tri-X
Technical information: I wanted to get a shot with strong lines without the distraction of colour and a minimum of subject content to fit the brief. Not particularly original I know but in the end I didn't have to look further than my living room. I'd also tried this shot with a 28mm lens for a greater feeling of depth (without actually increasing the depth of field too much, I still wanted to isolate the focus to just a few keys) but it couldn't focus close enough to exclude the body of the piano and the 14mm and 25mm extension ment it focused too close. Obviously need that 7mm!. In the end I settled for the shot with the 50mm macro as I felt the diagonals were strongest in this shot and it has a nice balance to it. I hope you agree.

Very nice tonal range, shallow DOF, and a great composition.

Comment left by: Bill Barber (nsurit@aol.com) Very nice composition. Love the selective focus. Tonal range seems to be nice (hmmm, might expect that on a piano). A very nice image that would look great hanging on a wall someplace. I hope you have it doing just that in your home.

As it happens I do have a print of it on the wall.

Comment left by: Chris Barker (no e-mail specified) I don't know whether it's original or not (and it is to me), but I really like this shot.
