Getaway

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Graham Battison
Title: Getaway
Gear used: OM2 SP 21mm Zuiko
Diaphragm: f11
Shutter speed: 1/125
Film used: Kodak T400CN
Technical information: Quad toned in PhotoShop
Subject information: Saw one or two vintage cars around so I found a nice spot, parked up and waited. Chose the 21mm because I liked the setting but it turned out to be a mistake. When a vintage car finally showed up I had to wait until it was almost on top of me before it had the prominence in the frame that I wanted. It was too close for me to freeze it completely with the shutter speed I had set. I waited for another shot but only modern cars passed by so I settled for 'artistic blur' and a title to suggest speed :-)

Comment left by: Olaf Greve (no e-mail specified) I love the spatial perspective effects that come from using the 21mm lens.

Comment left by: manuel viet (oly@m-viet.net) Too bad the manufacturer is out of buisness and the car out of production, because it looks like the perfect advert picture they were looking for at the time. Very very nice shot !

Comment left by: Piers Hemy (no e-mail specified) "it turned out to be a mistake" is itself a mistake. It's a great shot with good sense of depth both from the 21mm perspective and the toning, I wish I could have done something remotely similar (but there is nothing unusual in that).

Comment left by: Fernando Gonzalez Gentile (no e-mail specified) Great. You could find lots of vintage cars in my country but not such a nice spot.
Why 'freeze' it? I think not doing so could hardly be considered a 'mistake'. Cars move...sometimes vintage cars move too. IMHO.

Comment left by: Chris Barker (no e-mail specified) Lovely. The positioning of the car on the way out of the frame makes an interesting composition.

Comment left by: Wayne Harridge (no e-mail specified) Great car in a wonderful setting !

Comment left by: Bob Docherty (no e-mail specified) Great setting, composition and execution. I really like this one! Makes me want to start shooting more B&W. It really brings out the nostalgia of the vehicle.

Comment left by: Duncan Paterson (no e-mail specified) Lovely subject and great shot. To me, the slight blurring merely enhances the impact of the photo.

Comment left by: Graham (no e-mail specified) Wayne, I used a green filter as I orinally intended to use this shot as a straight b&w. Sorry for the delay in answering but I didn't want to mention green filter while the shots were still anonymous

Comment left by: Olli (no e-mail specified) This is technically excellent but also funny. It reminds me of those get away scenes in very very old gangster movies. The perspective is chosen very talently as it was said.

Comment left by: Wim Verheyen (no e-mail specified) Great mistake !
