Submitter's name: Duncan Paterson
Title: Bird's Eye View.
Gear used: OM-4Ti + 75~150/4 at 150mm, polariser, handheld.
Diaphragm: Around f4
Shutter speed: Auto
Film used: Fujichrome Sensia 100. Scanned on a KonicaMinolta Dimage Scan Elite 5400 II. Slightly cropped.
Technical information: Spot-readings used to estimate correct exposure.
Subject information: Looking almost straight down from the top of the Bürgenstock peninsula (1128 m) on the Vierwaldstättersee (Lake of Lucerne) 692 m below, I was rewarded by this unusual view of one of the numerous ferries and pleasurecraft that sail on the lake during the summer and autumn months. My vantage point was provided by a gangway leading out to the Hammetschwand elevator: a steel construction which is literally bolted onto the side of the mountain and houses an otherwise normal elevator in which lazy guests from a nearby hotel complex can ascend the last 153 altitude metres to the summit in a couple of minutes.

As well as being popular tourist attractions, beautifully maintained paddle-steamers such as this one are part of the fully integrated public transport system in Switzerland, which includes railway, bus and city tram networks.

Also, I like the lots of blue, that show the vastness of the lake.

Comment left by: Chris Barker (no e-mail specified) Lovely! And we can only dream of a fully-integrated transport system in the UK ...

Comment left by: Olli (no e-mail specified) I am a simple person and that is why I like simple photos like this one. The simplicity of the composition is stable and relaxing.
