The Redeye

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Mike Lazzari
Title: The Redeye
Gear used: OM-4Ti + 35~105/3.5-4.5
Diaphragm: don't remember
Shutter speed: slower than I would have liked
Film used: Portra 160vc
Technical information: It's pretty hard to get a sharp photo from the ferry under the best conditions because of the vibration and wave action. Plus I was facing low light and I needed some depth of field to get the foreground. Portra 160 wasn't the best choice in this situation but that's what was in the camera. A tripod is worse than useless in this situation and so I basically use my own mass to damp the vibrations by flexing my knees and taking lots of shots hoping one will be decent.
Subject information: Morning commute. The "Redeye" is what we call the first ferry sailing of the day, in this case leaving at 5:20am. I take it when working on one of the neighboring islands. Photo was taken in Wasp Passage heading east. The green navigation light is on Crane Island.
