Dragonfly

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Bernard Frangoulis
Title: Dragonfly
Gear used: Olympus E-1 with Zuiko 135mm f/2.8 and Vivitar extension tubes, tripod
Diaphragm: f2.8 or f4
Shutter speed: 1/60
Film used: ISO 200 RAW (ACR 3.1)
Technical information: Actually the tripod was used more like a monopod, as I was on my knee on the ground, balancing the tripod on one leg to get the focus right...
Subject information: I chased this little fellow for the best part of a morning, and in the end we got along quite well ;-)

Lovely sharpness and a very nice composition.
I'm seeing a nice use of the 135/2.8 here!

Comment left by: Moose (olymoose@moosemystic.net) Patience rewarded!
A mighty fine shot with amazing color detail!

Comment left by: Richard Lovison (no e-mail specified) I never knew a dragonfly could be so colorful and translucent. Nice composition for such a difficult subject.

Comment left by: Parzival Herzog (no e-mail specified) A very pleasing and unusual colour scheme. You have to imagine how the amazing set of optics on the head of that jewel-like insect was imaging you!

BTW, I know that this shot was impossible, or unpermissible, or unsafe: I read it right on the instructions for the Olympus 4/3 adapter. No F-stops lower than f/5.6 will give satisfactory results! ;-)

Comment left by: Jay Drew (no e-mail specified) A great shot. The colors of the body are striking and the view through the wing of the legs is fantastic. I am envious.

Comment left by: Fred van Rooijen (no e-mail specified) A really great macro shot, everything is balanced, I know how hard it is to catch all those flying creatures in their natural habbit but your effort is rewarded. And it proves Olympus wrong about the OM adapter, we know how to use a camera on manual.

Comment left by: Noel Polis (no e-mail specified) I agree with Fred : a really great macro shot, and I've tried too to catch those dragonflies.
Thank you, it's like a jewel !

Comment left by: Duncan Paterson (no e-mail specified) Wow! Another stunning macro shot! I particularly like the fact that you were positioned so that the right wing was also entirely in focus.
