The King and His Harem

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: James McBride
Title: The King and His Harem
Gear used: Olympus E-1 with Tamron 300mm f2.8
Technical information: Exposure data not recorded.
Subject information: This is one of the bulls in the Madison Herd in Yellowstone Park during the fall rutt. My grandkids named him Charles. There was another bull flanking him to steal some of his cows and this guy was keeping his harem close while bugling to warn the other bull to stay away.
He prevailed and the other bull wandered up into the timber. A few days later one of the large Madison bulls was hit by a car and killed.

I love the way the bull is 'telling the others off'. What a pity to hear about one of them getting killed by a car.

Comment left by: Martyn Smoothy (no e-mail specified) Bull - Cow? Stag - Doe surely? Just Red Deer...
Whatever - excellent shot!
