Oak's Eye View

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Ian Skelly
Title: Oak's Eye View
Gear used: A large variety of OM kit was available during the shoot, mostly stored safely in the top bedroom in right of picture. I did use an Olympus UV filter, strap and some lens cleaning tissues that I was given when I bought the OM4 new..... they must be near 30 years old now
Diaphragm: F2.8
Shutter speed: 1/250
Film used: Digital, ISO 200
Technical information: You can see exactly how the shot was taken, the eye detail being exactly as the pic came out The very shallow DOF did make the image confused around the eye, some areas pin sharp, some OOF. I used Photoshop to soften / blend / darken / desaturate these areas and form a kind of frame.

I used a 100mm macro for this, the wide angle effect is entirely due to the curve of Oaks eye.
Subject information: Oak's is a young Nova Scottia Duck Tolling Retriever dog.

He was sitting in the garden thinking about dinner when I took this.
I held his attention by suspending a nice dog treat from the lens hood. Yep, I needed to clean the lens with the Olympus tissues after I took the pic.

Nice colours, nice composition and a very original interpretation of the theme.

Comment left by: Bob Docherty (no e-mail specified) A very literal interpretation of the current theme! Very well done! Congratulations on an eye opening capture :)

Comment left by: Charlie Geilfuss (no e-mail specified) Fabulous shot. You've got one cooperative dog there.

Comment left by: Bernard Frangoulis (no e-mail specified) Extraordinary. Is that drool on the left, shiny side ;-) ?

Comment left by: Rheba Smith (rhebaatl@yahoo.com) I think this is an incredible shot. My little girl (terrier mix) won't sit still for the camera AT ALL.

Comment left by: Flemming Kristensen (no e-mail specified) What a brilliantly executed idea: To make the subject a part of the optical path. The model becomes the camera and the photographer becomes the model. I'm getting a headache just trying to work out the philosophical implications....
