Berry Wet

Comments made by the photographer

Submitter's name: Graeme Pow
Title: Berry Wet
Gear used: OM-1n + Tamron 80-210/3.8-4 + Manfrotto 055CL tripod with 486RC2 head
Diaphragm: f5.6
Shutter speed: 1/30
Film used: ILFORD FP4 Plus 125
Technical information: These berries were shot in situ (i.e. while still attached to the tree) using the macro setting on my Tamron on a dreich September day. I used an umbrella (of the rain kind) to keep everything dry. The resulting scanned negative was tweaked in Photoshop: channel mixer and highlight/shadow adjustments.
Subject information: I'd been trudging around the Pentland Hills Regional Park in heavy rain, shooting puddles, for just over an hour when I practically walked into this overhanging branch of Rowan berries (that'll teach me to look where I'm going). I really liked the way the water droplets were beading on the berries; I just wish I'd used a smaller aperture for greater depth of field.

Comment left by: Lorraine (l@aai.com) I like the way the background has been highlighted to accentuate the berries, and how the water has been captured on the tips. Image typifies rain well and leaves you imagining a wider shot of the area where it was shot

Comment left by: Johan Malmström (no e-mail specified) I like the out of focus effects! I think that I would not have the courage for such photo.
